Did my voting duty. It's time for a new castle. We have had new pirate ships and rebuilds of classic space through the Lego Movie. Bionicle just doesn't feel like it fits in the realm of iconic Lego sets. Time for a Castle.

UPDATE: As mentioned at the end of the original post, Build a Mini was part of the planned offering with the new Pick a Brick experience. The Beta for the Build a Mini has now launched in Europe and Asia Pacific. The PaB team will be gathering insights over the next few weeks. They have not provided a timeframe on when we might see the Build a Mini in North America.

There is a pretty cool prize for this LEGO Ideas contest: "We invite you to show us your LEGO moment in space! Use your imagination to create the ultimate space model – make it as sci-fi or realistic as you wish, just stay within a base of 16 x 16 studs. One lucky winner has the chance to have their entry transformed into a new Gift with Purchase set, and will win a collection of past exclusive Gift with Purchase sets!"

@sema4 yea it was a spy plane so I have my fingers crossed lol and @Krista honestly I just like the concept of modular so it may be wishful thinking but the video I watched the guy pointed out that they only release 1 modular this year and they already released one this year but I have to assume that because it's part of the ideas it might get extra consideration but I do t really know how the ideas system works anyway lol

@vdog Ya I had no idea about loot boxes (I'm not a gamer) until I read the article from the LAN. Very interesting that at least one country has made them illegal. It will be interesting to see if TLG makes a statement about this or factors it into their decision when designing the packaging for future cmf series'.

@sema4 all good. You raised a good point though and I wanted to know! Your question actually started a whole other discussion on the LAN and turns out many Ambassadors also wanted to know the difference between set size variants and just different fire station sets. Guess we'll never know unless the pilot is successful and it becomes something they put into practice (if they even tell us at that point lol).

Hi Cal, welcome to the Milug forums! We meet formally once a month, and also informally discuss all things related to LEGO in the members forums and on discord through out the month. We have done trades of parts, and minifigures at our meetings before. It never hurts to ask here as someone may have it, but for specific parts bricklink is usually the go to.

@vdog I started seeing posts about people getting their sets last month, but perhaps they were all in the states so it was quicker or they are distributing in US first and then internationally? Or by set? Who knows.

@flyboy I agree, their use definitely warrants a higher price compared to the power functions motors.

Something this large is likely best shot outside on a cloudy day as Mike mentioned. You can do it on a sunny day but you will need a reflector to soften the shadows. You can also try turning the lights 180 degrees and reflecting the light back with large white cards or vinyl sheet (just don't melt it) Also if you have an overhead light aimed at the backdrop right behind the shuttle it will kill nearly all of your shadows. You can try a backdrop light that is brighter than your other lights so it overexposes your backdrop so it becomes just pure white. You could also have a look at this video: https://fstoppers.com/commercial/product-photography-tutorial-shows-how-shoot-large-objects-55863 Though it's harder to do what he does without proper studio lighting. Good luck! PS and yes, Photoshop out those wrinkles... that's the best and fastest fix. Pixelmator is great software for this. Use the Clone tool rather than erasing.

@Ptrotter it would seem strange to me that they'd consider such a formulation as viable, but moreso, that they would release such material to the market without a lot of testing beforehand. Though I guess we've seen terrible quality plastics in the past so maybe my expectations are just unrealistic
